Karl Guðbrandsson fæddist á Halldórsstöðum í Laxárdal í S. Þingeyjarsýslu 25. nóvember, 1881. Ókvæntur og barnlaus. Hann var sonur Guðbrands Sigurðssonar á Jökuldal og Guðbjargar Þórarinsdóttur á Halldórsstöðum. Hann flutti vestur til Kanada árið 1902.
