Jón Stefánsson fæddist árið 1862 í N. Múlasýslu. Stephanson vestra. Jón fór ókvæntur  vestur til Winnipeg í Manitoba árið 1888 og flutti til Hallson í N. Dakota ári síðar. Rak þar verslun. Tók þátt í gullæðinu í Klondyke í Alaska en sneri þaðan aftur og settist að í Pine Creek í Manitoba.  Vann verslunarstörf í fyrstu en sneri sér svo …
