Jón Jóelsson fæddist í S. Þingeyjarsýslu árið 1820. Ókvæntur og barnlaus. Hann flutti vestur til Ontario í Kanada árið 1873 og var í Kinmount fyrsta árið. Fór þaðan til Lockeport í Nova Scotia.
