Þórey Jónína Sigurðardóttir was born on September 1, 1920 in Arborg. She died on March 2, 1987 in Winnipeg. She took the name Thorey Jonina Oddleifson in the west before marriage.

Þórey was the daughter of Sigurður Oddleifsson and Ólöf Anna Einarsdóttir in Arborg. Her grandfather, Einar Jónasson, a pioneer settler in the Geysir settlement, was on the survey committee in 1875 that traveled from Ontario to Manitoba to search for territory for New Iceland. Ásgeir was the son of Ásgeir Þorbergsson and Ingunn G Kristjónsdóttir in Arborg. He grew up in Arborg, went to school there and graduated from Manitoba Normal School in 1937. He taught for four years but enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1943, was sent to England and fought in the war until 1945. After returning home, he moved to Winnipeg, enrolled in engineering at the University of Manitoba and graduated in 1950. Afterwards, he worked for the Government of Canada.
