Dagmar Margrét Aðalheiður Stefánsdóttir was born on December 15, 1906 in Eyjafjarðarsýsla.

Dagmar’s parents were Stefán Nikulásson and Una Hálfdánardóttir. They came west in 1913 and Dagmar lived with them in Minnesota until 1918. They moved to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð). Gunnlaugur was the son of Valdimar Gíslason and Guðríður Teitsdóttir. Gunnlaugur grew as high as the grass in N. Dakota and then moved with his parents to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1920. Gunnlaugur was a farmer in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) and also worked as a carpenter. In 1941 Gunnlaugur moved to Vancouver and lived there the rest of his life.
