Björn Þorsteinsson was born on August 15, 1858 in Borgarfjarðarsýsla. He died in Lundar on January 26, 1952.

They came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1887 with one year-old Rannveig who died either on the way west or soon after arriving in the west. Björn took up land in the Lundar settlement in 1891 and lived there for quite a few years, but in his later years moved to Lundar.
