Þórunn grew up in Grindavík, the daughter of Ólafur Sigurðsson and Hallbera Eiríksdóttir. Þórunn came west to Manitoba in 1902. Sigurður grew up in Ögurhreppur in Ísafjarðarsýsla, moved with his parents to Bolungarvík and found he had the sea in his blood. Hann moved west to Manitoba in 1905 and settled in Brandon. He stayed there until the end of 1909, then moved west to the Canadian plains and settled in the Hólar settlement in Saskatchewan in the spring of 1910. He probably did not get used to the plains because in 1913 he moved west to the Pacific Ocean and settled in Blaine. He lived his last years in Seattle.
