Ásvaldur Kjartan Jónasson was born in the Garðar settlement in N. Dakota on February 11, 1884. He died in Wynyard, Saskatchewan in 1970. He had the name Valdi Hall in the west.
Spouse: 1912 Laufey Árnadóttir b. in N. Múlasýsla in 1887, d. in Wynyard in 1976.

Ásvaldur was the son of Jónas Hall and Sigríður Herdís Kristjánsdóttir in the Garðar settlement in N. Dakota. Laufey was the daughter of Árni Jónsson and Helga Hallgrímsdóttir, early settlers in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan. Ásvaldur grew up in the Garðar settlement, but then moved north from there in 1905 to the Lakes Settlement and took land north of Wynyard.
