Guðjón Ingimundarson came to Winnipeg in 1888. He had studied goldsmithing with Benedikt Ásgrímsson in Reykjavík and soon opened a watch and jewelry store in Winnipeg.
Guðjón immediately became popular among his countrymen, he was considered hospitable and funny. Supported various Icelandic associations and regularly contributed in their newspapers and magazines.
