After completing his studies in Nebraska, he was employed by the Canadian Ministry of Agriculture. In VIÆ IV it is said about his professional career: “Worked for the Ministry of Agriculture of the Government of Canada in the years 1953-’55 in Saskatoon and Ottawa. Appointed director in 1959 for the Manitoba Crop Insurance Corporation, and then established, among other things, crop failure insurance, which became a model for other provinces and was adopted more widely, e.g. in Israel. Assistant Minister for Agricultural Affairs 1960-’61 and again 1962-1964. In 1961-’62, he was hired, with the permission of the province, to sit on a committee with academics from Harvard to make plans for economic development in Iran, and the committee went east to there. He mainly worked on the plan for agriculture and credit activities. From 1964 he worked for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and first worked in 1964-65 as an economic advisor in Iran, where he stayed for 18 months, and from 1965-68 he was in Rome making plans for FAO on agriculture and water resources and was the head of the FAO department that deals with production and agricultural issues. His work has not least involved making plans for technical assistance and food delivery to underdeveloped countries in Asia and Africa, and his main residence has been in Rome, but he has also had to be on constant trips to the countries that have benefited from FAO’s assistance, in order to monitor and supervise the implementation of these programs.”
