  Bjarni Þórarinsson was born on April 2, 1855 in Hrunamannahreppur in Árnessýsla. He died in Iceland on January 6, 1940. He was known as Reverend Bjarni Þórarinsson in the west.

Bjarni graduated from Reykjavík School in 1881, studied philosophy and theology until 1883 and was ordained the same year. He served in the Þykkvabæjar Monastery for the first year, but a year later he is a pastor at Prestsbakki in Síða. He served there for 12 years, but in 1896 he was appointed pastor at Útskáli. In 1900, Reverend Bjarni moved with his family west across the ocean, where he served in various Icelandic settlements. He was pastor of the Tjaldbúðar (Tabernacle) Congregation in Winnipeg for three years. He moved back to Iceland in 1916.
