Bjarni Lúðvíksson was born on December 28, 1866 in Þingeyjarsýsla. He died in Bellingham, Washington on May 21, 1919.

Bjarni was the son of Lúðvík Finnbogason and Lilja Bjarnadóttir. She died when Bjarni was in his fourth year and he was therefore sent to relatives. There he received a preparatory education and at the age of 18 he went to study business studies in Copenhagen. When he returned home, he worked in a trade, but in 1887 he came west to Winnipeg. In 1890 he went to Seattle, while Margrét arrived there in 1891. They settled at Point Roberts in 1898, stayed there for a short time, then moved north to Steveston in British Columbia. In 1902 they returned to Point Roberts where they stayed for four years, then went to Blaine, but in 1907 Bjarni was offered a job at Point Roberts where he ran a business and store for ten years. He was forced to retire due to ill health, and they moved to Bellingham, where Margrét maintained a home for many years.
