Hinrik came west to Winnipeg in 1887 and was there a year. He first moved south to N. Dakota but then the road led him west to Victoria on Vancouver Island, British Columbia in 1891. He lived there twelve years, did construction work and built himself a nice house. He moved to Point Roberts, Washington in 1904, purchasing a cabin and 40 acres. The land was almost entirely wooded, but he gradually cleared it, built a house and moved the family from Victoria to the peninsula. Guðríður came to the West in 1889.
