Vigfús came to the West in 1892 with his parents, Jón Sigvaldason and Sigríður Sæmundsdóttir and settled with them in N. Dakota. The road led them north to Pine Valley, Manitoba, but in 1906 the family moved west to Blaine, Washington. Vigfús lived there until 1916, where he met Sigríður and they were married soon after. They lived there the rest of their lives.
