Jón Jónsson was born in Sauðey in Barðastrandarsýsla in 1856. He was known as Jón J. Breiðfjörð or Jón Jónsson Sauðeyingur in the west.
Spouse: 1) Svanborg Pétursdóttir b. in Skáley in Breiðafjörður in 1864, d. 1939. They divorced 2) Kristjana Össurardóttir b. 1861 Barðastrandarsýsla.
Children: With Svanborg: 1. Pétur b. 1888 2. Ólöf b. 1889. With Kristjana: son b. 1905.
Jón and Svanborg came west to Winnipeg in 1891, with their children and Svanborg’s mother Ólöf. Kristjana came west the same year. Jón traveled widely, settled in the Thingvalla settlement in N. Dakota, then later in Alberta. He and Kristjana settled at Point Roberts, Washington in 1916.
