Kristveig came west in 1879 with her parents, Jón Frímann Kristjánsson and Kristín Jónsdóttir. Sigurbjörn and Kristveig built a log cabin by the Icelandic River north of Riverton. It was called Bjarkarvellir. In 1910 they moved to the Lundar settlement and took land near Otto. Sigurbjörn came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1879 with his parents, Benedikt Kristjánsson and Hólmfríður Kristjánsdóttir. They settled in New Iceland, where Sigurbjörn grew up.
