Jóhannes Bergmann Sigurjónsson was born at Nýhagi in the Geysir settlement on February 24, 1897. He died on February 22, 1995. He had the last name Thordarson in the west.

Jóhannes was the son of Sigurjón Erlendur Þórðarson and Anna Jónsdóttir, who came west in 1893 and settled in the Geysir settlement in New Iceland where they named their land Nýhagi. Jónína was the daughter of Daníel Daníelsson and Guðrún Ingibjörg Magnúsdóttir who came west in 1894 and settled in Hnausa. Jóhannes and Jónína lived a long time at Nýhagi and his parents lived with them. The moved from there to Gimli where Jóhannes founded a fur farm (J. B. Fur Farm). He was very involved in the town’s social affairs and was steadfast in preserving and strengthening ties with Iceland. He traveled there countless times.
