He graduated from Maywood Seminary in Illinois and served congregations in Glenboro and Argyle in Manitoba from 1930-1945 and in N. Dakota from 1945 until his death. Ellen was the daughter of Guðmundur Jónsson from Dala County and his wife Guðbjörg Helgadóttir from Ferjubakka in Borgarfjörður. They lived in the Mouse River settlement in N. Dakota.
