Jónsson and his wife in Kandahar. Laura was the daughter of Sigurður Árni Guðnason and Sveinbjörg Sveinsdóttir Kjarval in the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan. Hallgrímur and Laura lived on his foster parents’ land until 1955, then moved to Nelson, British Columbia.
