Guðrún was the daughter of Torfi Jónsson and Jórunn Jónsdóttir, who came west in 1895. They first settled in the Shoal Lake (Grunnavatn) settlement in Manitoba but moved from there to Foam Lake, Saskatchewan. Jón was the son of Gísli Jónsson and Valgerður Eiríksdóttir, pioneer settlers in Foam Lake, Saskatchewan. Jón’s grandfather was Jón Ögmundsson from Bíldsfell in Árnessýsla, who came west with his wife and children in 1887. Jón Ögmundsson took his father’s last name of Bíldfell in the west. Jón Þorsteinn came west with his parents to Fishing Lake in the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð) in 1892 and took land near Foam Lake in 1894. He took over his father Gísli’s farm in 1929.
