Sigurður Indriðason was born in Húnavatnssýsla on July 14, 1863. He died in Selkirk, Manitoba on November 25, 1949.

Sigurður moved to the United States at a young age and worked as a fisherman out of Boston for 10 years. He then returned to Iceland. In 1904, Sigurður and Þuríður moved to Manitoba in 1904 and settled in Selkirk. There, Sigurður worked in a mental asylum. Guðrún’s parents, Páll Jónsson and Sigríður Lárusdóttir, came to the West in 1883 and lived in the Geysir settlement.
