Anna Steindóra Jónasdóttir was born in Skagafjarðarsýsla on March 11, 1878. She died in Manitoba on December 13, 1942.

They came west to Winnipeg in 1900 where they prepared for their future life. In 1903, they moved to Gimli, where they stayed until 1916. Then Jón joined the Canadian army and did military service for two years. They then settled in Winnipeg, where the family lived after that. Jón opened his own barbershop, which he ran for years. He was very involved in the social affairs of his countrymen, played the organ for 13 years and participated in the Frón Icelandic Association.
