Steinunn was the daughter of Stefán Hallfórsson and Sigríður Sigmundsdóttir, who came west in 1887. Gísli came to the West in 1883 with his parents, Magnús Guðlaugsson and Hólmfríður Jónsdóttir. They settled in Manitoba. Gísli learned book binding and printing. He ran a printing house in Gimli, Maple Leaf Printing and Publishing Co., and published the newspapers “Gimlungur” and “Heimilisvinurinn” there. He became more involved with the paper, “The Weekly Observer“, which was published in Ashern and “Dagrenning” in Winnipeg. In the last years he lived in Lundar, where he printed and published a weekly newspaper with his son Marlin.
