Magnús came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba with his parents and siblings in 1901. They lived there three years, then moved to the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1904. After his military service, he worked on his father’s land in the settlement from 1919 to 1939, but then became a carpenter in Leslie.
