Ásta was the daughter of Jósef Jóhannsson and Kristín Jónasdóttir, early settlers in the Geysir settlement in New Iceland in 1901. Wilhelm’s parents were Páll Jónsson and Sigríður Lárusdóttir who lived at Kjarni in the Geysir settlement. Ásta and Wilhelm lived there all their lives, where Wilhelm took over the farming at Kjarni when his father retired in 1936.
