Jón Jónsson was born in Árnessýsla in 1857. He died in California in 1934. He took the last name Austmann in the west.
Spouse: 1) 1893 Þuríður Guðrún Bjarnadóttur b. Ísafjarðarsýsla in 1876, d. 1899 in Manitoba. 2) 1901 Þóra Þorvarðardóttir b. 1864, d. 1925
Children: With Þóra: 1. Ásta 2. John b. 1902. Þóra had Kristján Jónsson in 1890 with Jón Ólafsson Alaskan explorer and editor.
Jón came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1886. Þuríður Guðrún came with her parents and siblings in 1887. Þóra came west in 1890.
Jón and Þuríður started farming in Narrows by Lake Manitoba with her parents, Bjarni Kristjánsson and Bjarney Guðmundsdóttir. They moved to the Big Point settlement shortly before the turn of the century, and Þuríður died there. Jón and Þóra lived at Big Point until 1912, when they moved to Winnipeg. Jón moved to his son John in California shortly after Þóra died in Winnipeg.
