Einar Sigurður Jónsson was born in Vopnafjörður in N. Múlasýsla on December 16, 1888. He took the last name Hrappsted in the west.

Einar came west in 1893 with his parents, Jón Jóhannesson and Margrét Jónsdóttir. She died in childbirth on the ship crossing the Atlantic. Einar and his brother Ottó moved west with his father to Manitoba and took land in the Argyle settlement.  The path led them in 1899 to Swan Valley near Swan River, Manitoba. Einar moved from there in 1910 and settled in the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð) near Elfros. He farmed there after that. Ólína was the daughter of Sveinn Halldórsson and Guðfinna Kristín Eiríksdóttir, who came west to Canada in 1887.
