Davíð Björnsson was born in Hafnarfjörður on July 7, 1890. He died in Winnipeg on September 30, 1981.
Spouse: 1) January 26, 1916 Kristjana Guðbrandsdóttir b. August 7, 1896 in Gullbringusýsla 2) August 4, 1945 Hallgerður Róslaug Jónsdóttir b. in Duluth, Minnesota on April 12, 1893.
Children: With Kristjana: 1. Erling Eyland b. March 8, 1916 2. Gunnar Axel b. May 1, 1920.
Davíð was the son of Björn Hjálmarsson and Guðrún Bjarnadóttir in Húnavatnssýsla. He spent his first years of life there but was sent west to the fjord and attended primary school in Hnífsdalur. From there he went to Skagafjörður where he attended the farm school in Hólar and after graduating in 1914 he was hired as a teacher at the school. His mind turned elsewhere, and he moved to Reykjavík where he studied carpentry in 1916. Moved to the West in 1924. More about Davíð in Íslensk arfleifð (Icelandic Heritage) below. Hallgerður was the daughter of Jón Magnússon and Þorgerður Eysteinsdóttir in Duluth.
