Járnbrá Byron was born in Vestfold, Manitoba on February 19, 1897. She died on May 26, 1965. She took the last name Vigfússon with marriage. She was the twin sister of Bessa Byron.

Járnbrá was the daughter of Stefán Björnsson Byron and his wife, Guðbjörg Sigurðardóttir who came west in 1893 and settled in Manitoba. Jóhannes was the son of Guðmundur Jónsson Austfjord and his wife, Jóhanna. His mother died when he was two years old and he was taken in as a foster child by Kristján Vigfússon and his wife, Halldóra. Járnbrá and Jóhannes were farmers in the Lundar settlement.
