Guðjón was the son of Guðjón Sófóníus Daníelsson and Una Guðlaugur Þórarinsdóttir, both of whom were born in Iceland. After completing elementary school, he was accepted into the Winnipeg Police Department in 1952. He later became a Peace Officer in Keremeos, British Columbia.
