Dr. Jón was the son of Jón Elías Straumfjörð and Ingiríður Jónsdóttir, who last lived in Vancouver. VÍÆ IV p. 291 is an excellent account of Dr. Jón’s career. “Completed his B.A. degree at the University of Manitoba in 1923, where he mainly studied Latin and mathematics, but moved to Oregon the same year and studied medicine at the university there, at the same time teaching students. Completed his medical degree in 1929, but taught for a few more years until he moved to Astoria in 1934 and founded the Astoria Clinic, where he also engaged in research, e.g. on Vitamin A”.
