Erika Pétursdóttir was born in Reykjavík on October 10, 1916. She died in Winnipeg on April 14, 1956.

Erika was the daughter of Pétur Á Jónsson, opera singer, and Ida Marie Köhler, of Danish descent. Skúli pursued an education, studying business administration in Denmark and Germany. When he returned home, he worked in retail and wholesale. In 1955, he moved to Winnipeg, where he worked in a glass factory and then stopped working on July 1, 1977. He quickly adapted to the Icelandic community in the city and took an active part in their organizations. He was president of the Icelandic National League of North America from 1977 to 1980.
