Sigurbjörg was the daughter of Jóns Inga Einarsson and Jóhönna Jónsdóttir who came west in 1890. Sigurbjörg chose to educate herself at a young age, studied at Jón Bjarnason Academy in Winnipeg and completed her teacher training at the Teachers College. Einar was the son of Björn Jónsson and Stefanía Sigfúsdóttir who came west to Manitoba in 1892. They first settled in the Vestfold settlement, but in 1894 they moved to the Shoal Lake (Grunnavatn) settlement where Björn lived until his death. After his father died, Einar took over and after a few years he moved to Oak Point where he made a name for himself. He started with extensive cattle farming and also engaged in fishing. For a long time, he ran both a fish and cattle business.
