Jón Ólafsson became a student in Reykjavík in 1911. He graduated from the University of Iceland in medicine in 1917 and went to Copenhagen for further education. He worked abroad as a doctor for a few years, e.g., in Spitzbergen 1919-1920. He moved to Cavalier, N. Dakota in 1921 and practiced there as a physician until his death.
