Jón Bjarnason was born in Borgarfjardarsysla December 18, 1854. Died in New Iceland January 4, 1919.
Spouse: 1) Guðný Guðmundsdóttir b. in Borgarfjardarsysla November 15, 1853, d. 1894 in New Iceland. 2) 1896 Ragnheiður Sigbjörnsdóttir b. 1856 in Nordur-Mulasysla, d. 1921 in New Iceland.
Children: All with Gudny: 1. Solveig (Veiga) b. at sea in July, 1887 2. Bjarni (Barney) b. March 4, 1891 in Duluth, Minnesota 3. Guðný Helga b. 1894 in New Iceland.
Jon and Gudny emigrated west in 1887 in the company of Einar Bjarnason and Sesselja Gudmundsdottir. Einar and Jon were brothers and Gudny and Sesselja sisters. They arrived in Ontario in Canada and headed for Muskoka district, where a third sister, Ingveldur and her family had settled in 1878. From there Jon and Gudny moved south to Duluth in Minnesota where they spent some time. Onwards to Winnipeg in Manitoba and late in 1893 they settled in the Icelandic River Settlement in New Iceland. Ragnheidur emigrated from Iceland in 1893 and went straight to Manitoba.
