Jakob went west in 1892. Guðrún and Ragnar Emil joined him in Manitoba in 1900. They took land in the Framnes and Árdals Settlement in 1901, but sold 5 years later. They then moved south to Duluth, Minnesota. They returned to Manitoba in 1912 and lived in Arborg until 1916. They then settled in Víðir.
Ragnar Emil remained at the home in Víður.
