Sigurd came west alone in 1876 and spent the first year in New Iceland. He went to Winnipeg a year later and worked with a farmer west of the city for two years. He then worked as a regular day laborer in Winnipeg and moved to the Argyle Settlement in 1882. He stayed there during the winter but worked in Winnipeg in the summer until he got married. Stopped farming in 1914. They visited Iceland in 1930. Anna Vilhelmína was the daughter of Valdís Guðmundsdóttir, wife of Símon Símonarson and mother of Dr. Valtýr Guðmundsson.
