Bæring emigrated to Ontario, Canada in 1874 and worked at various jobs there. He moved west to Winnipeg in 1881, the same year that Sigurborg joined him. They lived in Winnipeg until 1888 and then moved to Glenboro. He worked there in construction for two years before they moved to the Argyle Settlement where they lived there the rest of their days.
