Jakob came west in 1888 with his brothers and their families. He lived for several years in the Argyle Settlement, but it is not known if he owned any land there. In 1910, he moved to the Vatnabyggð Settlement in Saskatchewan. He bought lands in the Kandahar/Dafoe area.
