Björn and Guðrún came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1893 and married a year later. They moved to Víðirnes (Willow Point) in New Iceland and lived there until the turn of the century. The rising water level of Lake Winnipeg likely caused them to move from their marshy land. They moved north and settled by the Icelandic River where they farmed until moving to Riverton in 1939.
