Jóhann Jóhannsson was born in Skagafjarðarsýsla on September 19, 1831. He died in N. Dakota on February 24, 1919.
Spouse: 1) 1859 Arnfríður Jóhannsdóttir b. October 18, 1836 in Skagafjarðarsýsla, d. 1876 in New Iceland. 2) Guðbjörg Eyjólfsdóttir b. December 23, 1833 in Skagafjarðarsýsla, d. January 31, 1895.
Children: With Arnfríður 1. Eggert b. November 18, 1857 2. Arnfríður b. January 1, 1867 3. Jóhannes b. March 17, 1868, d. of smallpox in New Iceland on November 7, 1876 4. Árni b. July 2, 1873 5. Hólmfríður b. October 28, 1874. Another daughter died young. With Guðbjörg: 1. Guðrún Jónína b. September 21, 1878. Guðbjörg also had another child born earlier.
They sailed west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1876 and then traveled on to the Icelandic River Settlement in New Iceland. Jóhann bought land there and named the farm Vindheima after his birthplace in Iceland. Jóhann and Guðbjörg moved to Winnipeg in 1882 a year later to Beaulieu, N. Dakota, southwest of Hallson.
