Ólafur and Guðrún emigrated to New Iceland in 1876. They lived in the Icelandic River Settlement until 1879 when they moved to the Pembina Settlement in N. Dakota where they farmed their own land for just over a year. Moved west and settled in Mountain (Fjalla) Settlement where the church of the Fjalla congregation was later built.
