Stefán Jónsson was born April 15, 1836 in Eyjafjarðarsýsla. Died in Kandahar, Saskatchewan August 9, 1914.

Spouse: October 13, 1871 Ingibjörg Jóhannsdóttir b. Desember 8, 1844, d. September 12, 1937 in Selkirk.

Children: 1.  Jóhann Gunnlaugur b. August 8, 1871 2. Magnús b. November 24, 1879 . Two daughters died in Iceland. They fostered 1. Einar Þorkelsson b. July 26. 1866 2. Jónína Jóhanna Jóhannsdóttir b. July 20, 1889  in Mikley.

They emigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1883 where Stefán worked in a flour mill. A little later they moved to New Iceland and lived in Icelandic River Settlement for a few years. Grassy land some 3 miles north of the village (later Riverton) appealed to Stefán and he moved his family into this area in 1886. Soon others followed but Stefán was the first settler in a new Settlement, Ísafold. Stefán farmed until the turn of the century when floods in Lake Winnipeg forced him as well as many other settlers off their lands. Stefán and Ingibjörg moved to Selkirk where Jóhann, their son,was living. He moved to Kandahar in Saskacthewan in 1905, Stefán and Ingibjörg joining him in 1913. After Stefán´s passing  Ingibjörg moved back to Selkirk where her son Magnús was living.
