Reverend Oddur Vigfús Gíslason was born in Reykjavík on April 8, 1836. He died in Winnipeg on January 10, 1911.

They came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1894 and settled in New Iceland. Reverend Oddur answered a call from Riverton and the family moved there. From there he served in various settlements until 1903 when they moved to Winnipeg.
