Lake Winnipeg flooded for years, and it was not until 1905 that the water went down and Jónas was able to choose his own land. They started there but the lake rose and again flooded 1907 and 1908. They left the settlement and went west to the Ardals Settlement where they lived for a short time.  Jónas bought land in the Arnes area north of Gimli and they lived there.
