Jón Þorvarðarsón was born in S. Múlasýsla on July 5, 1871. He died in Riverton, Manitoba on June 12, 1966.
Spouse: April 30, 1899 Ingidóra Sveinsdóttir b. October 20, 1859, d. February 15, 1926 in New Iceland.
Children: 1. Sveinbjörg b. April 11, 1897 2. Valdimar b. July 5, 1899 3. Tryggvi b. September 14, 1901. They also raised Kristján Þórð Ástvin Johnson, son of Kristján and Guðrún Johnson who lived in Winnipeg.
They emigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1903 and moved to the village that later became Riverton. From there, the road took them to the Isafold Settlement in 1908. They called their land Heytang or Hay Point in English. It became the point of arrival of many who traveled on the water. Jon moved his house to Riverton in 1940 and lived there.
