Sigurður Sigurbjörnsson was born in Axarfjordur in N. Þingeyjarsýsla on October 18, 1852. He died in New Iceland on December 13, 1925.

Spouse: 1878 Snjólaug Jóhannesdóttir b. April 21, 1847. She died on November 2, 1939.

Children: 1. Sigurjón b. May 22, 1878 2. Friðrika 3. Friðgeir 4. Kristjana 5. Sigurbjörn.

Sigurður came west in 1874 and spent the first year in Ontario in Canada. Snjólaug came west in 1876 as a widow. He moved to New Iceland in 1875 and spent the first winter in Gimli. He took land in Árne in 1876 and named it Tungu. He worked on railroad construction and road construction.  Sigurður left Tungu in the Árnes Settlement and took another piece of land there in 1880, naming it Árnes. They later moved to Winnipeg and lived there for awhile. Sigurður moved south to N. Dakota and intended to buy land there, which did not happen so he moved back to Winnipeg. They later moved back to their farm Árnes.
