Elísabet Þuríður Jónsdóttir was born on October 23, 1830 in Húnavatnssýsla. She died in Winnipeg April 5, 1888.

Elísabet emigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba with her children in 1876. They settled in New Iceland and took land in the Árnes Settlement, naming their land Mel. She moved north to the Fljóts Settlement in 1879 and from there to Winnipeg where she lived with her daughter, Elísabet.
