Herdís emigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1885 along with her sons, Guðlaug, Ísleifur, and Guðmundur. Þorfinnur emigrated in 1887. She traveled to the Árnes Settlement and took land which she named Skógarströnd (Strönd).
