Rögnvaldur Jónsson was born on November 25, 1834 in Skagafjarðarsýsla. He died in the Argyle Settlement in Manitoba on June 17, 1922.

They came to New Iceland in 1876 and first lived in Sandvík in the southern area of the Árnes Settlement. They bought land in the Akra Settlement in N. Dakota in 1881 but never moved there. They lived in Winnipeg until 1884 and moved onto land in the Arnes Settlement that was formerly called Skipalækur but Rögnvaldur renamed it Mæri. They lived there until 1899, when the couple moved to the Argyle Settlement in Manitoba where their daughter Lilja lived. They lived there the rest of their days.
